THE
SHADOW
The earth in blankets, the cold has come
Hearts are burning in a world that is numb
Gray skies cover once brightened skies
As tears darken once lighted eyes
The pure white snow o'er bloody streaks
And brisk winds redden dark gloomy cheeks
War has struck and left its mark
Now all is lost and all is dark
A tree casts a shadow across a plain
Covered with those so unmercifully slain
A mother weeps, a child dies
A wounded soldier weakly sighs
A helpless glance is cast above
Where was our God with all His love?
He must not care for those who braved
For He their lives could sure have saved
No, came the answer, love still exists
But buried neath deep foggy mists
The dirt man breathed, the filth sin bore
Has secluded our Savior forever more.
