MY PARADE

Ah, sweet parade of life
Drums beat to my ears
Not all okay, which ones to keep
They calm yet feed my fears.

In youth the choice came easily
No burdened cares to feed
Happy tunes with quickened beat
Fulfilled my every need.

I searched for life's direction
My dreams were much the same
Not all of them were winners
The future's mine to claim.

The years have changed my cantor
My drummer's beat now wrong
Sometimes I fail to keep in step
'Tis time to change my song.

The tunes of youth no longer fit
The pace too quick for me
I search to find a newer sound
Slowed down and more carefree.

Some older folks will stay in step
But some will march alone
Some will choose the wordy song
While others choose the tone.

Tis now the time for me to choose
The beat that fits my style
It must be crisp yet slow enough
For me to stay a while.

None all right and none all wrong
Each one must choose his beat
I know that mine must slow a bit
To match my slow retreat.
